Distinguished Alumni of 1998

Dr.
Susan Hedtke Helberg is the director/facilitator and
was instrumental in the development of a Johns Hopkins University demonstration
site school. Many educators have
come to see this demonstration site. Dr. Hedtke Helberg has been a reading
specialist for many years for Orange County Schools, the sixteenth largest
school district in the nation. She has presented at local and state education
conferences and workshops. She has organized school reading incentive programs.
She is a member of Phi Delta Kappa Professional Fraternity in Education, Florida
Reading Association, the Orange County Reading Association, and the
International Reading Association. Dr. Hedtke Helberg has received the
President's Award from the International Reading Association in recognition of
outstanding work in the field of reading.
Dr. Hedtke Helberg received
her doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida.
She received her bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Wisconsin
Stevens Point. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society and of Kappa Delta
Pi International Honor Society in Education.
Dr. Hedtke Helberg has been
elected to serve on a North Dakota city park board and city library board. She
has been an officer of the local chapters of the National Federation of Woman's
Clubs and the County Homemakers Association. Susan has served as a Boy Scout den
mother and as a Girl Scout leader. She has been local chairperson for the
American Cancer Society. She has been president of the Women's Association in
her church, has taught Vacation Bible school, and the adult Sunday School class.
Susan is a charter member of the Mayo Legacy and has been featured in a Mayo
Clinic film and a Mayo publication.
Dr. Susan Hedtke Helberg has
traveled extensively for the last 30 years in Europe, the United States, the
Orient, Africa, Australia, and South America. Last year she made a trip to India
and also one to China. She has just returned from Turkey. Her husband, Mason, is
a graduate of the University of North Dakota and a retired bank president. She
has two children, John and Heather. John has a masters degree from the
University of Central Florida and is an electrical engineer at Maxwell Air Force
Base. Heather has an accounting degree from the University of Central Florida
and is in management at Universal Studios. Susan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Hedtke of Hedtkes' I.G.A. Store, Hatley.

Susan K. Bulmer received her
bachelor’s degree from the UW-Stevens Point in Forestry; her master’s of
Science in Recreation Resources Development from Texas A & M.
She received a Certified Public Managers Professional Certificate from
the Vermont Learning Center; Leadership and Management Training Program
Certificate from the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, The Business Institute
for Park and Recreation Professionals Certificate from the National Recreation
and Park Association & North Carolina State University; and a Comprehensive
Management Systems Certificate from the Organization of Wildlife Planners.
Ms. Bulmer is the Resources
Planner for the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation in
Waterbury, Vermont. She coordinates
and manages statewide recreation resource policy and planning projects and state
lands and park long-range management plan projects.
Susan coordinates special events, workshops, conferences, and public
meetings and hearings. She is involved in a variety of advisory committees.
Susan is also the business manager for Excel Physical Therapy in Milton,
Vermont.
Susan
enjoys hiking, backpacking, fishing, canoeing, bicycling, snowshoeing, camping
and all outdoor activities and sports, as well as gardening and bird watching.
She is involved in various associations and committees, and has had articles
published in various professional publications.
