At Rothschild School we require students to follow four basic rules:

1. Students must not interfere with the learning or play of other students.

2. No unsafe behavior for the individual or others will be allowed.

3. Students must respect the rights of others.

4. Students must respect the property of others, including the school’s property.

Students are expected to demonstrate good conduct, use self-control and maintain a safe attitude by observing safety practices before, during and after school. Rothschild believes that a positive school atmosphere enhances individual learning. To maintain this atmosphere, students must conduct themselves appropriately and not interfere with the learning or rights of others. Therefore, the following "all school discipline plan" has been implemented and this section is devoted to communicating that plan to students and parents.

DISCIPLINE

CLASSROOM PLAN

PHILOSOPHY: All students can behave appropriately and all students have a right to learn. Furthermore, the teacher has the right to teach and students must follow a set of rules to establish an excellent learning environment. The following procedure applies to all homerooms, including music, art and physical education.

RULES: Students will:

1) Respect other people and their property.

2) Raise their hand and wait to be called on.

3) Come to class prepared to learn and use class time to learn.

4) Keep hands, feet and other objects to themselves.

5) Follow directions.

6) Be cooperative.

CONSEQUENCES: When a child breaks a rule…

1) 1st warning: name on board

2) 2nd warning: 15 minute lunch detention

3) 3rd warning: 25 minute lunch detention and call home

4) 4th warning: removal to principal’s office

PLAYGROUND PLAN

PHILOSOPHY: All students need intermittent opportunity to release energy, engage in appropriate play, and develop social skills with other children. Furthermore, research indicates that students learn faster and remember more if they have frequent periods of exercise and fresh air. To accomplish these goals, all students will be assigned outdoor recesses. Children are expected to go outside unless:

  1.  A child is recovering from a recent sickness and needs recuperating time. (Parents need to send a note requesting a maximum of 3 days.)
  2. The weather is inclement such as the temperature is below zero or conditions are wet/muddy.

The playground is a very exciting and active area for all students. To insure the safety and welfare of all students three general rules are communicated frequently to all students:

1) Students play must be safe and not cause danger for others.

2) Students cannot interfere with the play of other students.

3) Students must respect the property of other students.

RULES:

1) Students are not allowed in the front of the school or on the hill on
west side of the play area.

                    2) No tackle games or shoving games are permitted.

                    3) Throwing of sticks, rocks, dirt, sand, snow or snowballs is
                        prohibited.

                    4) No fighting.

                    5) Students will share playground equipment.

                    6) Students will not jump off equipment or use equipment in an
                        inappropriate way.

                    7) Students will line up quickly and quietly at the end of recess.

                    8) Students will enter the building quietly and not interfere with other
classes that may be in session.

CONSEQUENCES:

1) Unsafe play on equipment will result in loss of right to use that
equipment for an appropriate amount of time.

                    2) Fighting, intentional harming of another student, destruction of property,
or continued non-compliance with rules will result in being sent to the
                        principal.

                    3) Interference with another's play will result in a time out on the wall.

                    4) Continually breaking the rules will result in the loss of recess.
