			Unit Nine: Solution Chemistry
* Knows the structure and the properties of matter
	• Understands the mole concept and ways in which it can be used
o Compute concentration of solutions (Molarity, % by weight)
* Understands the principles of force and motion
	• Knows that electromagnetic forces exist within and between atoms
	• Knows that materials that contain equal proportions of positive and negative charges
are electrically neutral, but a very small excess or deficit of negative charges
in a material produces noticeable electric forces
o Solubility rules: Like dissolves like
o Describe and distinguish between the different types of mixtures
                   - solutions, colloids, and suspensions
		o Different factors influencing solubility
			Ongoing themes
* Understands the nature of scientific inquiry
	• Use technology (hand tools, measuring instruments, calculators, computers) and mathematics
to perform and communicate scientific investigations
* Understands the nature of scientific knowledge
	• Knows that investigations and public communications among scientists must meet certain
criteria in or to result in new knowledge and methods.
o Interpret solubility tables to determine if a solution is
                        saturated, unsaturated or supersaturated.
  	• Knows that creativity, imagination, and a good knowledge base are required for work in science
	• Knows how basic research and applied research contribute to new discoveries,
                inventions, and applications
