Scanning Images Using ImageDeck Scanner

by Emily Burton

We have recently aquired some new MicroTek ImageDeck scanners.  They look a bit like a desktop copy machine (see picture to the left.)  Unlike traditional scanners, these units are not limited to only Windows or only Macintosh.  They are used without connecting to a PC in any way.  The images you scan are saved directly to a ZIP or floppy disk.

Follow the steps below to scan images and include them in a document.  Note: These steps will work on both Windows and Macintosh.

Steps 1-9 are done at ImageDeck itself.  The remaining steps are done at the computer, and depend on which software you are using.

  1. Insert disk (zip or floppy) into it's appropriate slot
  2. Place document face down in the scanner
  3. Go to mode and make sure that the dot for scan and color (if you want color) is lit up.
  4. Set compression to desired setting (Medium is fine for most uses.)
  5. Adjust the +/- buttons to adjust the scale
  6. Check that the scan area dot says auto
  7. Press the save button until your type of disk is selected
  8. Press start

  9. (If one of the buttons above the number display lights up, it means that you need a different disk)
  10. When the numeric pad again shows the scale you can remove your document
