Customizing the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar

You are able to customize the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar to your preferences.

These instructions will explain some of the different options available.

Accessing Customization Menus

Click on the first portion of the toolbar

This menu will be displayed

Click "Customize" on the pop-up menu.

The "Customize" window will appear.

See the following pages for explanations of each section of the "Customize" window.

View Tab Options

If you click the "View" tab, the following window will be displayed:

Options available on right-hand side of window:

Option

Action

Large Buttons

Enlarges the buttons on the toolbar so they are easier to see

Show Tooltips

Displays the name of each button when you rest the pointer on a button

Always on Top

Displays the shortcut bar on top of all the other windows

Auto Fit into Title Bar Area

Places the shortcut bar in the title bar area of a maximized program. This option has no effect unless the toolbar is docked along the top edge of your screen.

Animate Toolbars

Animates the movement of the toolbars - which makes them easier to see

Sound

Sound accompanies the movement of the toolbar

Show Title Screen at Startup

Displays the Microsoft Office title screen when starting the toolbar

The options listed for the "Color" section on the left-hand side of the window are for defining custom colorization for the selected toolbar.

Buttons Tab Options

If you click the "Buttons" tab, the following window will be displayed:

Toolbar: Select the name of the toolbar that you wish to modify.

Show these Files as Buttons: List of available buttons that can be displayed on the toolbar. If the box is checked, the button will appear on the toolbar.

Add File button: This button allows you to select additional items that you would like to add to the toolbar.

Add Folder button: This button allows you to select directories that you would like to add to the toolbar.

Delete button: When you have an item selected on the "Show these Files as Buttons" window, you can press the "Delete" button to remove that item from the list of available buttons.

Rename button: This button will allow you to change the display name of the button.

Move buttons: When you have selected an item in the "Show these Files as Buttons" window, these buttons will allow you to rearrange the position of the buttons on the toolbar.

Toolbars Tab Options

If you click the "Toolbars" tab, the following window will be displayed:

Show these Folders as Toolbars: List of available toolbars that can be displayed. If the box is checked, the toolbar will be displayed.

Add Toolbar button: This will display the following window:

You have the option to either create a new toolbar or you can set a toolbar for a folder location.

Rename button: This button allows you to rename the toolbar.

Move buttons: When you have selected a toolbar in the "Show these Folders as Toolbars" window, these buttons will allow you to rearrange the position of the toolbars.

Settings Tab Options

If you click the "Toolbars" tab, the following window will be displayed:

This window allows you to set default locations for the User Templates and Workgroup templates. It is well advised not to change these settings unless you have a full and complete understanding of what you are changing.
